What Is This?

One guy's attempt to put things in perspective. To reflect on the good and the bad, the sad and the mad. And hopefully, to laugh at it all.

Ludington Ludington

I am no longer certain I like taking the back way to go visit my mother in Ludington (I-75 North to 10 West, all the way to Lake Michigan). First, there are some pretty dreary stretches of redneck USA along this route, where one is largely stuck with seeing either protestant churches or taverns with names like "Roadkill Bar & Grill" scrawled in red paint (?) on a makeshift sign. I suspect that these bars may serve as churches as well. Second, everybody drives the speed limit! This normally isn't so terrible. I enjoy crossing that dotted yellow line and passing people on country roads. Much harder to pass someone on the wrong side of the road in Metro Detroit. Interesting, perhaps, but much harder. This particular trip was made worse because a) it was raining, and b) there was a semi in front of me for sixty miles kicking up a steady spray all around him so that I could not see anything beyond thirty feet ahead of him, again making passing a tricky and potentially life-threatening scenario.

The visit, though, was wonderful, as always. The first thing I always do when I pull into town (if not heading straight for House of Flavors) is park at the city beach for a few minutes and let the waves wash my mind away. Works every time. Seriously, I don't think about anything except how awesome life is when I'm staring out at the water. It's no wonder nothing ever gets done in the Caribbean.

My Aunt Carol and cousin Holly and her two-month old baby Braden were visiting from Chicago as well. The more, the merrier! I don't know what it is exactly, and I have mentioned it before, I know, but in Ludington, there are no knots in the stomach, no worries, just warmth and life. Soon, I hope to recreate that atmosphere for myself, so when you come to visit me, you'll know you are home.

Anyways, I know this blog is largely informational. I am too tired to write anything profound, seeing as I am going on about two hours of sleep since yesterday morning.

I can tell you, however, that my trip to House of Flavors did happen, and consisted of a double dip waffle cone with one scoop of tiramisu ice cream and one of Tennessee Toffee. WOW!

So that's it. Maybe I'll come up with something interesting in my dreams tonight. Sleep well, readers.
