I would definitely say that one of the most jarring, emotionally devastating events of my life occurred when Coca Cola changed it's formula in the 1980's. Eventually the mistake was corrected, sort of. Coke was brought back as Classic Coca Cola and the crappy new formula was renamed New Coke until being phased out over the next few years. Still, I would imagine it to be kind of like your wife cheating on you and then trying to make up for it. It's just never again quite the same. Who could know when Coke might pull something stupid like that again?
When the formula first changed, I tried to deny that there was any difference. I thought, they wouldn't REALLY change the formula. They couldn't! Not to me! Once I realized the severity of it, though. I smashed all of the "new" coke bottles on the rows of fallen pine logs in my yard. Some douche bag at Coca Cola actually got paid for this idea?! I actually wrote the company a letter, asking them to just sell the old formula for a little while longer. Maybe I could stock up. Build a bunker and keep like 6,000 cases down there. There must be a way! After I realized nothing was going to be done about it, I gave up. I didn't even LOOK at a bottle of Coke for months. I sullenly drank Pepsi. I slept long hours. I didn't answer the phone. My fingernails grew fungus..............but you know what? I finally decided that the past is the past and I can't do anything about it, so why fight it? I started drinking Coke again, even though it was a pale imitation of the original.
All in all, it was quite an ordeal.
LOL
