It would be easy to blog all in on the health care debate. Now, while the sword strikes hot, while the wound is yet fresh, when emotions spill over like a New Orleans levy. You cannot go wrong, really. Logic plays no part in arguments made yesterday, during the coup, or today, amidst the aftermath. The time for logic was many months ago, which, if you are Obama, had passed its usefulness. Generally, in order to get things done, action begins where logical thinking ends (and often, mistakes are made). Similarly, the time for logic for the right will likely come sometime between now and the end of summer, when the November Congressional races really begin to heat up. But now, right now, is not the time for logic. Now, is the time for fallacy.
The following things are NOW:
1. Using racial slurs is bad. Some Republicans use racial slurs. Therefore, all Republicans are bad.
2. Obama favors government-subsidized health care. Government subsidized health care is a socialist policy. Communism used socialist policies. Therefore, Obama is a communist.
3. People ardently protested against the civil right movement. The civil rights movement was just. People are ardently opposed to Obama's health care reform. Therefore, Obama's health care reform must be just.
We could go on.......and on and on. There are obvious flaws in the logic of each of the above statements, hence the link above to Wiki's fallacy page.
So, given that political arguments are weak when confronted in an emotional state, and given that I am tired, I shall not talk about health care reform today.
