What Is This?

One guy's attempt to put things in perspective. To reflect on the good and the bad, the sad and the mad. And hopefully, to laugh at it all.

What's up with the news lately. I admit, I am one who has avoided television news for years. Usually, the only news I see is the front page of the Detroit News as I'm heading for the sports section or the MSN homepage on my work's internet. But Jesus! Are we really entering the Apocalypse?! Everyday - a film crew gets robbed at gunpoint in Detroit. A guy gets carjacked, kidnapped, and murdered. Child killers. Kids who kill. Michael Jackson gets murdered by his personal physician. It's all just too much. Is it all really as bad as the media makes it out to be?

In other news, I found out I got a B in my German class. I thought for sure I would get no better then a C. I don't know if my instructor was just trying to be nice, but it just goes to show you that things are never really as hard as they at first seem to be. Just remember to breathe.

I've now seen my friend's band, Mirage, once. It was their second show. I could swear the place was a converted mobile home. There were even vertical blinds behind the stage covering up what must have been a patio, and I would assume is now a beer garden? There were ten or twelve locals there, along with friends of the band. It was actually pretty cool. For as much as I feel removed when dealing with social situations, I enjoyed seeing my friend up there belting out The Killers and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, among many other things (Everlong comes to mind), basically for the cost of putting on a show. They even mixed in a Led Zeppelin song in the middle of the Chili Peppers.

I am now trying to get into a routine for the fall. I've made a list of goals, checked it twice, and am ready to tackle it..... again. I wonder sometimes if chasing goals is my way of avoiding the present. More on that later.
